About MdMaya Gems | Certified Gemologist & Natural Stones
MdMaya Gems is an independent gemstone boutique founded by certified gemologist María Dolores “Lola” Sánchez Polledo.
We specialize in natural loose gemstones selected for their beauty, individuality, and gemological integrity. Every stone in our collection is chosen with care — not as a mass-produced object, but as a unique creation of nature, shaped by time, geology, and character.

A Gem in the Family
MdMaya was born at the same time as my daughter.
My daughter’s hands holding gemstones — the real beginning of MdMaya.
I’ve always been passionate about gemstones. During my pregnancy, when moving around was not easy, I began buying gems online. Very quickly, I learned some hard lessons. I faced disappointments from both online and physical shops, and I often had to take the stones to the Gemology School at the University of Barcelona to confirm whether they were truly what I had been told.
Needless to say, my daughter now has quite a collection of “faux stones”: synthetic sapphires, amethysts, citrines made of synthetic quartz, and more. Eventually, I realized I did not want to depend on others to tell me whether a gemstone was treated, synthetic, or natural.
I wanted to know for myself.
So I decided to study.
Gemological Training & Expertise
I completed a two-year Gemology program at the University of Barcelona and earned my official title as Gemologist. I later specialized in Diamonds, became a Specialist in Synthetic and Treated Gems, and obtained the FEEG – European Gemmologist certification from the Federation for European Education in Gemmology.

Throughout this journey, I learned a simple truth:
When you buy a luxury car, you expect a high-quality engine — not one from a budget model. But in the gemstone world, it is surprisingly common to pay for a ruby and receive red glass, a synthetic spinel, or a treated stone worth far less than what you paid.
This shop was born to offer the opposite.
At MdMaya Gems, transparency is essential. I select natural gemstones with care, disclose treatments whenever they are known, and photograph each stone as honestly as possible. What you see is what you get: real gems, real images, and real gemological attention.

I do not believe that beauty only exists in perfection. Natural gemstones often carry tiny internal features, color nuances, growth marks, or optical effects that tell part of their story. To me, these details are not flaws to hide — they are part of what makes each gem unique.
